He was elected Independent Director of the Company in May 2002. He is the Chairman and President of Alsons Consolidated Resources, Inc., Alto Power Management Corp., Alsons Development and Investment Corporation, Lima Land, Inc., and Sarangani Agricultural Co., Inc., among others. He is a Director of Holcim Philippines and DBP-Daiwa Securities Corp. He studied at the Ateneo de Manila University, the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and the Harvard Business School. He was formerly the Chairman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and served the Philippine government in various capacities as Undersecretary for Industry and Investments, Department of Trade and Industry, Vice Chairman and Managing Head of the Board of Investments, and Special Envoy of the President of the Philippines to APEC.
